Hunter Henry 2019 Outlook: Finally Fulfilling the Promise
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry missed the boat on his third-year breakout, mainly because he missed the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL suffered during OTAs. He technically returned for one game to make a cameo appearance in the team's playoff loss to New England but he didn't catch a pass. The only silver lining is that his injury occurred early enough that it didn't affect fantasy owners in re-draft leagues and he should be 100% entering this season.
The optimism is definitely there for a Henry breakout, as he is the fourth TE being selected in NFC leagues. There is no realistic threat to his playing time, as Antonio Gates is a free agent once more and Virgil Green has proven to be a mediocre backup. Henry should be one of the primary red zone threats and the third or fourth target on a dynamic Chargers offense. He is worthy of an early selection but the injury risk must be acknowledged. Sites such as Inside Injuries give Henry a nearly 50/50 chance of suffering some sort of injury this season, so the risk is baked in with the potential reward.
