Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene's (hip) estimated return is set for Aug. 20. Greene is making progress after throwing a side session on Tuesday and a live batting practice session on Friday. The 23-year-old hard-throwing starter has a ways to go, though, as he's been on the shelf since the middle of June with a right-hip injury. The Reds have been working with him on strengthening his core so that the issue doesn't arise again once he's back in the major-league starting rotation. Greene will need a minor-league rehab assignment before returning as well, so fantasy managers must continue to be patient and stash him in all formats for his strikeout upside when healthy. Greene had a 3.93 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 100 K's in 73 1/3 innings (14 starts) before going on the injured list.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (groin) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right-groin strain and won't go on the injured list, at least right now, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Gordon Wittenmyer. It's good news for now, but it doesn't mean Greene won't eventually land on the IL, depending on how he recovers. The hard-throwing 25-year-old only lasted three innings in his start on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves due to his groin strain. At the very least, he will most likely be skipped in Cincinnati's starting rotation the next time through. The former second overall pick in 2017 has been a must-start in fantasy in 2025 through his first eight starts over 45 2/3 innings, as he's sporting a 4-2 record, 2.36 ERA (3.07 FIP), a league-best 0.81 WHIP and a league-leading 7.63 strikeouts/walk mark.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (groin) left his start early on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park due to a right-groin injury, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Charlie Goldsmith. It's a shame that Greene had to leave early, as he already had thrown three shutout innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Fantasy managers should check back for an update after the Reds put Greene through some post-game tests. For now, the 25-year-old's next start will be in question in what would be an excellent matchup next Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox, and he could be forced to the 15-day injured list as well. The former first-rounder has been a must-start in fantasy in 2025, as he entered Wednesday's start with a 4-2 record, 2.53 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 55 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings over seven starts. UPDATE: Greene will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday morning before the team decides what to do next. Both Greene and the Reds have suggested it might not be severe. However, the pitcher said, "I don't know. I'm not a doctor."--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Hunter Greene allowed two hits and one earned run over six innings pitched in Friday's 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals. He struck out 12 batters and issued just two free passes, improving to 4-2 to start the year. Greene was dominant through five innings, with the only run he allowed coming on a solo bomb from Nats first baseman Josh Bell. Otherwise, the 25-year-old was superb, inducing 18 swings and misses and topping his previous season-high in strikeouts by four. He'll carry a stellar 2.53 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with 55 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched into a scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves next week.--Alex Ciulla

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene earned his third win of the season on Saturday by allowing just three runs on seven hits over six innings against the Rockies in Denver. He gave up all three runs on a pair of home runs, but worked around any other trouble while raising his total strikeouts on the season to 43 in 36 2/3 innings. He improves to 3-2 on the year in his six starts with a 2.70 ERA and 3.46 FIP. The win and the strikeouts were enough to make this a solid Coors Field outing despite the two long balls. He'll look for even better results next time out, when he is scheduled to face the Cardinals at home on Thursday afternoon.--Zach Thompson - RotoBaller
