Guardians, Andres Gimenez Finalizing Long-Term Extension
2 years agoThe Cleveland Guardians and second baseman Andres Gimenez are finalizing a long-term contract extension on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 24-year-old infielder was a first-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner in 2022 and had 7.4 Wins Above Replacement for the Guardians. He also finished his third MLB campaign with a .297/.371/.466 slash line with a career-high .837 OPS, 17 long balls, 69 RBI, 66 runs scored and 20 stolen bases in 557 plate appearances over 146 games played. His big season in 2022 put Gimenez firmly as a top-five fantasy asset at the keystone. However, a high BABIP last year points to potential regression across the board for the young infielder in 2023. UPDATE: the two sides agreed on a seven-year, $106.5 million extension with a $23 million club option for 2031.
