Glover Teixeira firmly put himself in the top contender spot by defeating Thiago Santos by third-round submission. It was pretty well-known that if the bout went to the ground, it would be Teixeira's to win. He made good on that and defeated Santos. In addition to landing 46 significant strikes (148 total strikes), Teixeira was successful on four of his seven takedown attempts as well as locking in two submission attempts. One of those attempts was successful, a rear-naked choke 1:49 into the third round. Teixeira truly has a good shot to win the light heavyweight championship should he be given the shot instead of the super fight taking place between middleweight and the light-heavyweight champion.--Matt Bricker
