Gleyber Torres Goes Deep Twice on Friday
Gleyber Torres broke a 28-game home run drought in an 11-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Torres, who hadn't homered since May 12, got to work immediately with a leadoff HR in the bottom of the first inning against starter Nick Martinez. He added another solo shot in the seventh against reliever Ian Gibaut for his first multi-homer game of the season. Torres ended the evening 2-for-4 with three RBI and a strikeout. Although he went a few weeks without a homer, Torres has been quite productive this year. He's hitting .271/.373/.414 with seven HRs, 33 RBI, 32 runs scored, four steals, and 33:30 BB:Kin 249 plate appearances. The plate discipline gains are especially encouraging for Torres, who posted a 20.3% strikeout rate and a 9.1% walk rate from 2018-24 as a Yankee.
