Giants Place Matt Chapman on 10-Day Injured List With Hand Inflammation
Matt Chapman (hand) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with right-hand inflammation and recalled infielder Christian Koss in a corresponding move, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin. X-rays came back negative on Chapman's hand after he injured it during a slide on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, but he'll be forced to miss at least the next 10 days. Hopefully, the 32-year-old veteran will be able to return when he's eligible to come off the IL on June 19. In his second season with San Fran, Chapman has hit .243 (56-for-230) with 12 home runs, 30 RBI, 35 runs scored and seven steals in 65 games played. Casey Schmitt is likely to see most of the playing time at third in Chapman's absence, but he's merely a waiver-wire candidate in NL-only formats. San Fran's defense and offense will take a hit without one of their best players. UPDATE: Chapman is scheduled to visit with hand specialist Dr. Steve Shin in Los Angeles on Friday.
