Giants Out Of The Bidding On Yoshinobu Yamamoto?
12 months agoThe San Francisco Giants have been told they are out of the bidding for Japanese free-agent right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, according to a source familiar with the discussions. The Giants were pushing hard to add Yamamoto to the top of their starting rotation next to Logan Webb, but the expectation is that he will end up with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets or New York Yankees. The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies also met with Yamamoto, but they are considered more of long shots for his services. The Giants continue to be spurned by big-time free agents, as they've lost out on Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge and Shohei Othani in recent seasons. We can now add Yamamoto to the list. Perhaps the best pitcher to ever come out of Japan, Yamamoto could command a deal worth up to $300 million in the next week.
