Giancarlo Stanton Looking Like Former MVP Self
4 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is looking more like the player that won the MVP with the Miami Marlins, when he led the majors with 59 home runs and the National League with a .631 slugging percentage. His batting average (.292) is his best in the first 30 games of a season in his career, and his OPS (.914) is second on that list. Being healthy is the biggest thing for Stanton, but he's also seeing more pitches in the strike zone (47.8 percent) this year, and he's not missing them. Stanton is also being more aggressive on those pitches with a 70.4 percent swing rate. He's hitting .349 with a .709 slugging percentage in at-bats ending on in-zone pitches. Stanton is also using the field much more, pulling the ball just 31.8 percent time, compared to 55.1 percent last year, the highest rate of his career. In addition, he leads all qualified hitters with a 64.7 percent hard-hit rate and has a 17.6 percent barrel rate, which is among the top 15 in the league. If Stanton can just stay on the field, he should continue to reward his fantasy managers.
