German Marquez Takes Another Loss
5 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez continued to struggle in his final outing before the All-Star break. Marquez was saddled with the loss against Arizona on Sunday after allowing five runs, four earned, in six innings. Marquez struck out five and only gave up six hits, but those were capped with a Nick Ahmed home run. Colorado's offense didn't help much, allowing Arizona's pitching staff to carry a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the deficit was too large once the bats started to come around. Hopes are high for Marquez, and his peripherals say he should be one of the better pitchers in the league with an xFIP of just 3.59, but he's instead carrying an ERA of 4.45 into the break. Hopefully, the rest will allow him to come back strong.
