Gavin Williams To Return Next Wednesday
1 year agoCleveland Guardians rookie right-hander Gavin Williams (knee) is set to make his next start next Wednesday against the division-rival Minnesota Twins. Williams left his last start on Tuesday against the Twins with right-knee soreness, but it's clearly not too serious of an issue for the 24-year-old. He has more than held his own in his first 13 big-league starts for Cleveland, as he's sporting a 3.46 ERA (4.00 FIP), 1.28 WHIP, 27 walks and 68 strikeouts in 65 innings. The former first-rounder out of East Carolina pitched to a 3.62 ERA, .229 opponent's average, 10 walks and 37 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings over his six starts in the month of August. Williams will be on extra rest next week and isn't a bad option for starting lineups as long as his knee is no longer bothering him.
