Garrett Whitlock Hasn't Resumed Throwing
1 year agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Garrett Whitlock (elbow) hasn't resumed throwing yet, so he will not return to the team next week. The Red Sox are likely to go with bullpen games on Monday and Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. The 27-year-old has been on the injured list since the Fourth of July with a bone bruise in his right elbow, and fantasy managers in deeper leagues must be patient. You shouldn't feel the need to hang onto Whitlock if you have more pressing roster needs to open the second half of the season. In 10 starts before his injury, Whitlock went 4-3 with a 5.23 ERA (4.50 FIP), 1.32 WHIP, seven walks and 47 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in his first year as a full-time starter in Boston.
