Garrett Mitchell Undergoes Surgery, Likely Out For The Year
2 years agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) had shoulder surgery on Tuesday and is likely out for the rest of the season, although there remains a sliver of hope that he can return to play late in the year. "It was a serious surgery and the timeframe makes it unlikely, like we said," manager Craig Counsell said. "But we'll see." The 24-year-old tore the labrum in his left shoulder on a slide into third base on April 18, and he can be dropped in single-year fantasy leagues. Mitchell is a big part of Milwaukee's future, though, and he was hitting .259 (15-for-58) with a double, triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base in 16 games before suffering the season-ending injury. Rookie Joey Wiemer has taken over primary center-field duties.
