Garrett Mitchell Undergoes Surgery, Likely Out For The Year
12 months agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) had shoulder surgery on Tuesday and is likely out for the rest of the season, although there remains a sliver of hope that he can return to play late in the year. "It was a serious surgery and the timeframe makes it unlikely, like we said," manager Craig Counsell said. "But we'll see." The 24-year-old tore the labrum in his left shoulder on a slide into third base on April 18, and he can be dropped in single-year fantasy leagues. Mitchell is a big part of Milwaukee's future, though, and he was hitting .259 (15-for-58) with a double, triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base in 16 games before suffering the season-ending injury. Rookie Joey Wiemer has taken over primary center-field duties.
