Freddy Peralta 2023 Player Outlook: Skills Remain But Health An Issue
Freddy Peralta was unable to build on his 2021 breakout after missing nearly half of the season with shoulder issues. When healthy, Peralta looked good putting up a 4-4 W-L record, 3.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 86 Ks (78.0 IP). Peralta can consider himself a tad unlucky too with a 2.70 xERA while his xBA and xSLG both ranked in the 92nd percentile. He did see a drop off in his strikeout numbers, with a 27.1% K% in 2022 (down from 33.6% K% in 2021) and his average fastball velocity was down 0.8 MPH to 92.6 MPH. That was understandable given his health woes. Somewhat more concerning was after missing all of June and July, Peralta had another IL stint in September and only managed 9.2 IP (four outings) over the final four weeks of the season. He's expected to be fine for Spring Training but questions remain about if he can stay that way throughout the season. If he can, Peralta's 3.66 xFIP and 3.46 SIERA over the last two seasons (222.1 IP) is a tantalizing proposition with an ADP of ~141 (41st starting pitcher). And if he can get back near to the 33.6% K% from 2021, Peralta has the upside to be an SP2.
Freddy Peralta Might Get An Extra Day Of Rest
Freddy Peralta (groin) has not undergone any imaging, but the team may opt to give him an extra day or two to rest. Peralta exited Sunday's contest early due to groin soreness. However, given this report, it seems the right-hander avoided a significant injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status throughout the week in case he faces a setback. On Sunday, Peralta logged six shutout innings against the Cubs. He allowed just four hits, one walk, and struck out seven batters. Through 45 1/3 innings of work this season, the 28-year-old has posted an impressive 2.18 ERA with a strong 1.04 WHIP. If Peralta were to need an additional period to rest, Quinn Priester could be given a start, as he was deployed in a long relief role over the weekend.

Freddy Peralta Dazzles In No-Decision Against Royals
Freddy Peralta certainly pitched well enough to get a win on Wednesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals at American Family Field, but instead he picked up a no-decision in a 3-2 extra-innings win despite allowed just one earned run on two hits while walking none and striking out eight in eight innings of work. The 28-year-old Dominican allowed his only run in the second inning and then retired the last 19 batters that he faced in his second outing of 2025. Peralta's eight innings pitched tied a career high, and he's looked excellent in the early going in 2025, as he now sports a 2.08 ERA with 16 strikeouts and only one walk in 13 innings pitched. He's essentially a must-start in fantasy lineups when he takes the ball, but he could be more volatile in his next scheduled outing in Colorado against the Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Freddy Peralta Fans Eight In First Start Of The Season
Freddy Peralta got his season off to a strong start despite a tough environment on the road at Yankee Stadium. Peralta had eight strikeouts in five innings while giving up four hits and two earned runs. Both runs he allowed were on solo home runs from Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe in the first two innings. The 28-year-old took the loss even though he kept his team in the game and departed with the score just 2-1. He only worked five innings since his pitch count was at 93, so he'll need to improve his efficiency to work deeper into games to be an elite fantasy option. His strikeouts were encouraging, though, and he'll look to build on his momentum in his next start, which lines up to be next week at home against the Royals.

Brewers Name Freddy Peralta As Opening Day Starter
Freddy Peralta will be the team's Opening Day starter in 2025 on March 27 against the New York Yankees. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise for the Brew Crew with right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) likely to open the year on the injured list. It will be the second straight Opening Day start for the 28-year-old Peralta, and it won't be a great matchup for fantasy purposes against the Bronx Bombers. Peralta went 11-9 with a 3.68 ERA (4.16 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 200 strikeouts and 68 walks in a career-high 173 2/3 innings over 32 starts in 2024. It was the second straight year he reached the 200-strikeout mark, but that type of production is probably the ceiling at this point in his career as he heads into his eighth year in Milwaukee. Target Peralta as a safe No. 3 fantasy starter in drafts this spring.
