Frankie Montas Could Be Available In ALCS
2 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Frankie Montas (shoulder) has thrown twice from bullpen mounds and will travel to Tampa to begin throwing live batting practice. The Yankees view him as an opener/relief option if they advance to the American League Championship Series next week. Montas is dealing with right shoulder inflammation and hasn't pitched since late September, so he won't be able to go very deep for the Yankees if he starts any games in the ALCS should the team advance past the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Division Series this weekend. The 29-year-old starter wasn't very good in his eight starts for New York after being acquired from the Oakland Athletics, going 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA (4.93 FIP), a 1.54 WHIP and a 33:15 K:BB in 39 2/3 frames, but injuries may have been to blame.
