Francisco Alvarez Dealing With Finger Contusion
1 year agoNew York Mets rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez (finger) appears to have avoided serious damage after getting hit on the fingers by foul balls in the game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies. "Just a finger contusion," manager Buck Showalter said. "He's been getting hit a lot lately." With the Mets having nothing to play for in the final week of the regular season, Alvarez could take at least a couple of days off before returning to catching duties, so expect Omar Narvaez to be behind the dish for the Mets on Tuesday for the start of a series against the Miami Marlins. The 21-year-old Venezuelan backstop has been a strong source of power at a weak position for fantasy managers in his first full big-league season with 23 homers and 57 RBI, but he's hit only .175 (28-for-160) with six homers, 22 RBI and 47 strikeouts in 52 games (41 starts) in the second half.
