Fernando Tatis Jr. Hitting Cleanup Against Nationals
Fernando Tatis Jr. is starting in right field and is batting cleanup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals and left-hander MacKenzie Gore at Petco Park. With Tatis moving out of the cleanup spot for the first time all season, first baseman Luis Arraez will shift to the leadoff spot as the Padres continue to search for more offense. In 22 games in June, Tatis is hitting a pedestrian .250 (20-for-80) with two home run, four doubles, nine RBI, five steals and 18 runs scored. The 26-year-old two-time All-Star should have more opportunities to drive in runs but will be facing a pitcher in the midst of a breakout season. He's also struggled against lefties in 2025, going 13-for-74 (.176) with only one of his 15 home runs and 20 K's in 88 trips to the plate. Tatis has hit .200 with an RBI in just five career at-bats versus Gore.
