Felix Hernandez Throws First Bullpen
7 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez said he felt good after throwing 27 pitches in his first bullpen session Saturday. He is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on March 3 against the Cubs. King Felix is far from the fantasy ace he once was, as he made just 16 starts last season due to recurring shoulder issues. He had a bloated 4.36 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while also allowing 17 homers in 86 2/3 innings. Hernandez isn't inducing as many groundballs as he did in his prime, either, and coupled with his injury risk as he ages, he's more of a deep league or AL-only league target these days. The Mariners will be cautious with him this spring and could give him plenty of rest throughout the season to keep him healthy.
