4 years agoComing off a career 2019 campaign, outfielder Eddie Rosario slashed .257/.316/.476 with 13 home runs and 42 RBI in just 231 plate appearances with Minnesota in 2020. Now with the Indians, Rosario will call Progressive Field home for 2021. Though he won't be hitting against Indians' pitching, Rosario has had tremendous success in Cleveland throughout his career. In 177 plate appearances (45 games) at Progressive Field, Rosario owns a career .353/.379/.653 line with 11 HR and a 1.031 OPS. Looking at Rosario's 2020 metrics, managers could shy away from Rosario due to a low overall exit velocity and overall hard-hit rate that ranked in the bottom third of MLB. This would be misguided. Rosario's 2020 metrics in these areas were relatively consistent with career averages resulting in 25-to-30 HR production. Furthermore, Rosario's 2020 zone contact rate of 84.2% was identical to his 2019 contact rate, and his 2020 14.7% strikeout rate (up ever so slightly from 14.6% in 2019) remained elite in the top-11% of MLB. Notably, Rosario's 2020 EV on FB/LD dipped down to 92 mph from 93.9 mph in 2019. This, coupled with a move to a less potent Indians' lineup, may slightly impact HR and RBI returns (if it outweighs his move to a better ballpark), but not enough to justify passing on Rosario at an ADP of 117.5. The always underappreciated but consistent Rosario should provide managers with a .270 average, 27-32 HR, and 90-100 RBI as an OF2/3 around the 120th pick.
