Dylan Carlson Could Make Bid For Opening Day Roster
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Dylan Carlson, baseball's No. 17 prospect, was making a strong bid for an Opening Day roster spot when spring training was postponed, hitting .313/.436/.469 in 39 plate appearances. Cardinals outfielders had a .755 OPS last year, which ranked 20th in the league and was the lowest among teams that made the playoffs. Carlson is a switch-hitter with a well-rounded skill set, as he was one of 10 minor leaguers to have at least 20 home runs and 20-plus steals in 2019. The 21-year-old has a much better shot at playing everyday in 2020 with the addition of the universal designated hitter, making him worth a late-round pick in redraft leagues.
