Dustin Johnson Reclaim's World No. 1 Ranking
7 years agoWith a dominating win at the St. Jude Classic, Dustin Johnson overtook Justin Thomas for the ranking of No. 1 in the world. Johnson's 19-under par total was the lowest since the course was redesigned in 2004, and he punctuated his amazing play with an eagle on the par-four 18th. "It means a lot," Johnson said when asked about ascending to No. 1 again after his 64-week run atop the rankings ended last month. "It was a long way to get there and I held it for a long time, and obviously (Justin Thomas) took it from me for a little while. It was nice to finish like that and get it back." Johnson now heads to the year's second major, the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. No golfer has ever won the Open after winning the week prior, though if anyone can buck history, it's Johnson. He will be one of the favorites this week.
