Drew Robinson Makes Giants Minor League Team
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson, who lost his right eye in a suicide attempt last year, made the Opening Day roster for the team's Triple-A affiliate and could play as early as Thursday when the Sacramento River Cats open their series in Las Vegas. The 29-year-old shot himself in the head and spent more than a year in rehab. The left-handed hitter learned to discern balls and strikes without his lead eye, and he also added almost 20 pounds of muscle in minor league camp. Robinson needed four surgeries on his eye and face, and he continues to do regular therapy, meditation and medication. When he connects with the baseball, he has legitimate power, but only time will tell if he can be successful enough at the plate to make a return to the major leagues.
