Don't Write Off Zack Greinke
4 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Zack Greinke had a 1.84 ERA in his first five starts of 2020, but he finished with a 4.03 ERA, his second-highest mark in any season over the last decade. Greinke allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last seven starts, his longest streak since 2005, his first full season in the majors. But the 37-year-old former Cy Young had a career-best 7.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio last year for the second straight season. The right-hander also had a career-low 3.3 percent walk rate and a 2.80 FIP. Greinke was pretty unlucky with a .321 BABIP against, the second-highest in the American League. The veteran allowed an 8.2 percent barrel rate, but his opponents' average exit velocity was 86.8 mph. Greinke isn't as sexy of a pick because of his age, but he could have a bounce-back season at a reduced cost.
