Dillon Tate To Serve As Opener Against Blue Jays
3 years agoBaltimore Orioles right-hander Dillon Tate will serve as the opener on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Tate was drafted fourth overall as a starter in 2015 and has made 55 big league appearances, but they've all been in relief. In 35 2/3 relief innings this year, Tate has a 4.29 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 31/11 K/BB in 27 appearances. He'll be a poor streaming choice because he's unlikely to go more than an inning or two. Left-hander Keegan Akin was initially expected to serve as the opener, but he could be the bulk guy instead, giving him a better shot at picking up a win. But he, too, should be avoided against a potent Toronto lineup. Akin also has an uninspiring 7.46 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in 11 outings (seven starts) over 41 innings this year.
