Davis Thompson Unworthy Of A Flier At Congaree

While Davis Thompson boasts both a decorated collegiate resume at the University of Georgia and a recent appearance in the Walker Cup, he has largely struggled against PGA Tour competition. The second-ranked amateur golfer in the world has only four PGA Tour starts under his belt, and he has missed the cut in three of them. While a missed cut at the U.S. Open is certainly forgivable, he also missed the cut badly in both the RSM Classic and the Puerto Rico Open, losing a respective 8.7 strokes and 4.8 strokes total on the field. Both of those tournaments boast similar strengths of field as this week's Palmetto Championship. Thompson projects as a great future Tour pro, but he should not be rostered until he finds his footing against elite competition.
