Daulton Varsho Getting A Breather Thursday
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher/outfielder Daulton Varsho is taking the day off on Thursday against the Houston Astros with left-hander Framber Valdez on the mound. Varsho snapped a 10-game hitting streak on Wednesday, but he's gone 7-for-23 (.304) with three home runs and four RBI in seven games since the calendar flipped to June. The 26-year-old has actually hit for a better average against southpaws (.250) than against righties (.216) this year, but he's yet to go deep against a lefty. Overall, he's hitting just .222 (51-for-230) in his first year in Toronto with 11 home runs, 26 RBI and eight stolen bases for fantasy managers. Whit Merrifield is starting in left field and hitting seventh on Thursday, while Santiago Espinal is at the keystone and batting eighth against Valdez.
