Damien Williams 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Clear No. 3 Option In Atlanta's Backfield
2 years agoAfter a one-year stint in Chicago, running back Damien Williams signed with the Atlanta Falcons this past March. At the time, Cordarrelle Patterson had not yet re-signed, making many take notice of Williams as a potential fantasy option early on in the offseason. Since then, Atlanta has re-signed Patterson and selected Tyler Allgeier in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft. The fantasy value of the former Kansas City Chiefs starter then plummeted. Early reports out of camp have Patterson working in a myriad of roles on offense and Allgeier getting hyped up as the potential starter out of the backfield. These reports should not come as a surprise. Williams touched the ball 56 times in total for the Bears last season. David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert were the leaders for Chicago out of the backfield, with Williams seeing most of his work when Montgomery missed time due to a knee injury. The former Oklahoma Sooner seems destined to beat Avery Williams, Qadree Ollison, and Caleb Huntley for the third spot on the RB depth chart but will be used sparingly compared to last season. Williams is a name to watch if injuries occur in Atlanta, but nothing more for fantasy.
