Cubs Recall Nick Madrigal Friday
2 years agoThe Chicago Cubs recalled infielder Nick Madrigal from Triple-A Iowa on Friday and optioned infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Iowa in a corresponding move. In his return to the big leagues, the Cubs gave Madrigal the start at second base while putting him in the leadoff spot on Friday against the San Francisco Giants. The 26-year-old tore up Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .488 average in 41 at-bats, but he was hitting a lackluster .247 (23-for-93) with three doubles, a triple, no home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs scored in 34 games. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should still leave Madrigal to the waiver wire. He's unlikely to be a lineup regular, and he has only two home runs and eight stolen bases in 176 career big-league games.
