Cubs, Cody Bellinger Agree On One-Year Deal
2 years agoThe Chicago Cubs and free-agent outfielder Cody Bellinger agreed to a one-year, $17.5 million deal on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The Los Angeles Dodgers chose to non-tender the 2019 National League MVP after he hit just .210/.265/.389 with 19 home runs, 68 RBI, 70 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 550 plate appearances over 144 games in 2022. That was after he batted .165 with 10 homers and 36 RBI in 95 games in 2021. The 27-year-old is hoping to reset his value with a much better 2023 campaign, and he figures to be an every-day starting center fielder for the rebuilding Cubs. The Colorado Rockies were discussing a one-year deal with Bellinger before he chose the Cubs, while the Toronto Blue Jays were also interested.
