Cubs Acquire Greg Deichmann, Daniel Palencia
3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Greg Deichmann and right-hander Daniel Palencia on Monday night in exchange for left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin. Deichmann, 26, was a second-round pick in 2017 and was hitting .300 with a .432 on-base percentage and an .881 OPS with 20 extra-base hits in 59 games for Triple-A Las Vegas before the trade. Coming into the year, he was ranked by MLB Pipeline as Oakland's No. 9 prospect. The left-handed hitter struggled the last few years while dealing with injuries, but he's making more contact in addition to his raw power. There's a possibility he could make his major league debut later this year. Palencia, 21, was Oakland's No. 12 prospect. He was hitting high-90s with his fastball this spring and touched triple digits before he joined Low-A Stockton, but he's posted a 6.91 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in six starts.
