Craig Kimbrel To Throw Live BP Saturday
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel will throw another session of live batting practice on Saturday, and he could be ready to join Triple-A Iowa after that. Kimbrel may need around five minor league outings, including a back-to-back set, before he's ready to make his team debut with the Cubs near the end of this month. The hard-throwing right-hander needs some time to work back into shape after lingering on the free-agent market into the season. Kimbrel has a career 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 333 saves and an elite 14.7 K/9. He'll be Chicago's go-to ninth-inning guy when he's ready, which will push current closer Pedro Strop into a setup role.
