Cole Hamels Won't Be Ready For Opening Day
5 years agoUpdating a previous report, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Cole Hamels (shoulder) won't have time to build up for Opening Day, according to general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Hamels is dealing with a shoulder issue, but it's nothing serious. However, he'll miss at least three weeks in camp and won't have enough time to build up before the start of the regular season. The 36-year-old left-hander also dealt with some left shoulder issues with the Cubs last year and he's not getting any younger, so this is definitely a concern for Atlanta and Hamels' fantasy owners to begin the year. There's obviously more risk in selecting Hamels, but if healthy he should provide solid value as a mid-rotation starter for a good Braves team.
