Clarke Schmidt Begins Rehab Assignment
3 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (elbow) is beginning his minor league rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on Monday. Clarke, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been out since last February with an elbow strain, but he has thrown recently in simulated games and is slowly making his way back. If he makes it back to the Yankees before the end of the season, he's likely to be used in a relief role, which would obviously limit his fantasy appeal in single-year leagues. The 25-year-old struggled in his big league debut last year, allowing five earned runs while striking out seven and walking five in 6 1/3 frames. Clark's injury and command issues are concerns, but at the very least, he could provide the Yankees with an intriguing bullpen arm in the future.
