Christian Watson 2022 Outlook: Growing Pains Expected In Year 1
3 years agoGreen Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Christian Watson has an opportunity of a lifetime with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a thin wide receiver room. The 23-year-old Watson burst onto the national spotlight at the NFL Combine, where he emerged as arguably the most athletic receiver in a loaded class. His athleticism and opportunity to have a secure snap share with an elite quarterback give him significant upside, but his learning curve is likely to make for inconsistency and frustration for fantasy managers. Watson's production at North Dakota State was limited by an extremely run-heavy scheme. He also did not show a tremendous ability to break tackles, which is surprising considering both his size and FCS opposition This makes him a huge question mark in redraft leagues, even if he eventually puts it all together. Watson is being drafted with a post-NFL Draft ADP fluctuating around 130 (WR54), roughly three spots behind teammate Allen Lazard, who has a more solidified role in the offense. Though Watson's hype has seemed high, this is an appropriate value to take a chance on him considering who will be throwing him the football. However, it also highlights that Lazard may be the better value at his similar price tag.
