Christian Encarnacion-Strand Avoids Serious Injury After Hit By Pitch
1 year agoCincinnati Reds rookie third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand) left the game early on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates after being hit on the hand by a pitch. Fortunately, he avoided a serious injury after X-rays came back negative. Encarnacion-Strand finished his game 0-for-2 with a strikeout and the hit by pitch before being replaced by Henry Ramos at designated hitter. Fantasy managers should consider the 23-year-old infielder to be day-to-day for now, but don't be surprised if he sits out Saturday's contest as a precaution. Encarnacion-Strand is the Reds' No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he has impressive raw power. He has 52 home runs in the last two seasons in the minors and came into Friday's game with three home runs and a .270 average (20-for-74) in his first 22 big-league contests.
