1 year agoDetroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (back, elbow) is playing catch five times a week and is scheduled to throw a short box bullpen session on Wednesday, June 21. Even though Wednesday's session won't be a full bullpen, it still represents a pretty big step for Mize, who hasn't thrown off a mound at all since having Tommy John surgery last June. The 26-year-old is also working his way back from a lumbar strain in his back, but things are moving in the right direction. There remains no firm timetable for his return to the Tigers' starting rotation, but barring anymore setbacks, Mize will have a chance to pitch in big league games again later in the second half of the season.
