Cardinals To Keep Kyler Murray Out All Year?
1 year agoThe Arizona Cardinals have a legitimate business reason for keeping quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) off the field for the entire 2023 season. Murray has millions in injury guarantees that will become fully guaranteed in the not-too-distant future. If a player can't pass a physical on the date the guarantees convert, the team cannot avoid the financial commitment. If Arizona is contemplating a future without Murray, it makes good business sense to keep him on the Physically Unable to Perform list the entire season. A trade after 2023 would shift much of Murray's money to a new team, but they might not want to take on nearly $67 million fully guaranteed. It's clear the Cardinals are tanking, and they are going into the start of the regular season with either Joshua Dobbs or rookie Clayton Tune as their starting quarterback.
