Cardinals Re-Sign Robert Alford Friday
4 years agoThe Arizona Cardinals re-signed cornerback Robert Alford to an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday, according to a source. Arizona released him from his large contract -- he made nearly $15 million the last two years -- after he missed the last two seasons due to injury. Releasing Alford on Wednesday saved the team $7.5 million in salary cap space, as he was set to make $9 million in 2021. He will now be allowed to fight for a starting cornerback role. The 32-year-old signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal in 2019 to be the No. 2 alongside Patrick Peterson, but injuries have kept him off the field. He broke his leg late in August of 2019 and suffered a torn pectoral muscle last season. Alford had 50 tackles and 11 passes defended with the Falcons in 2018 but also struggled through an ankle injury.
