The Vancouver Canucks have bought out the final four seasons of Oliver Ekman-Larsson's eight-year contract. Ekman-Larsson was a big catch for Vancouver when he arrived from Arizona via a trade in 2021, but the Swedish blue-liner never really got comfortable with life in Canada and ended up having two disappointing seasons. His play deteriorated so badly that Ekman-Larsson even spend some time as a healthy scratch this season. He played 54 games and had only 22 points with a minus-24 rating, missing the end of the campaign with an ankle injury. Ekman-Larsson, who will turn 32 next month, had $29 million remaining on his contract. Instead, he will now be paid $19.5 million over the next eight years, with Vancouver getting some cap relief. The team opened up $7.1 million of cap space for next season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
