The title defense for the duo of Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt did not go as they would have hoped, missing the cut by two strokes. Smith and Blixt fired an opening round seven-under 65 during the four-ball portion on Thursday but followed up that showing with a cringe-worthy four-over 76 in the alternate shot format. Smith got sloppy on holes nine and 17, finding the water on both tee shots and the twosome had a collective implosion on hole eight, with Blixt missing the fairway and Smith coming up over 30 yards short on his approach. Each of those three holes resulted in a double-bogey effort. While this is a disappointing title defense for the 24-year-old Smith, he is still having a career year on tour with five top-10 finishes on the season. Cameron Smith is not in next week's Wells Fargo Championship field but should return the following weekend to participate in the world-renowned Players Championship.--Spencer Aguiar - RotoBaller
