3 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and rookie first-rounder Mac Jones are set for a legitimate QB competition this summer. Jones, 22, was fast-tracked in organized team activities and mandatory minicamp and, up until the final day of minicamp, even looked better than Newton. Jones has had his rookie mistakes, but he's been accurate and efficient in the short and intermediate areas of the field, where Newton struggled in 2020. The rookie's grasp of the playbook has also been impressive. "Mac sees the game the way (offensive coordinator) Josh (McDaniels) sees it," one teammate said. Newton looked great on the final day of minicamp and is expected to be the starter in Week 1, but Jones isn't far behind and could eventually take over if Newton's struggles from last year return. The 32-year-old Newton will be a fine streaming option because of his ability to churn out points on the ground.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
