Byron Buxton Resting On Memorial Day
2 years agoMinnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Byron Buxton will start on the bench on Memorial Day on Monday against the Houston Astros. As a way to keep the oft-injured outfielder healthy, the Twins have used Buxton exclusively as their designated hitter in 2023, and he started each of the last six games in that spot. The 29-year-old power/speed threat should eventually play in center field, but it remains to be seen when that will happen. Overall, he's hitting just .225 (40-for-178), but he's added nine doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, six stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 48 games. Buxton has gone 4-for-26 (.154) with a homer and two RBI in his last seven games, so a day off hopefully will help him get back on track. Alex Kirilloff is serving as the DH and hitting cleanup on Monday against Astros right-hander J.P. France.
