Byron Buxton Could Play In Spring Games In Mid-March
5 years agoMinnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that outfielder Byron Buxton (shoulder) is swinging the bat and is ahead of schedule for what Baldelli expected. The team will play it cautious with the speedy outfielder, but he could get into spring training games by mid-March. The second overall pick in 2012 still has enticing speed and power, but he has played in over 100 games in a season just once in five MLB seasons and is as much of an injury risk as any player out there. When he played in 140 games in 2017, Buxton hit .253/.314/.413 with 16 home runs, 51 RBI and 29 stolen bases. Once his price drops in the late middle rounds, Buxton is worth the gamble for his speed and power contributions when healthy, but he's not a lock to be ready by Opening Day.
