Although Bubba Wallace was significantly outrun by the other top-tier Toyota teams at Nashville and only ranked 12th-fastest in speed, he stayed out of the pits on the lap 220 caution after pitting only laps earlier, putting him in a great position for a strong finish to hopefully close his deficit to Joey Logano for the final playoff spot. He ranked sixth at the end of regulation, but was forced to pit on the following caution. Because many other leaders ran out of fuel later, Wallace was briefly in a winning position, as he was ahead of all the faster cars and behind only slower cars with worn tires. However, he progressed through the field more slowly than others to ultimately finish seventh. Unfortunately for Wallace, Logano ended up winning, placing Wallace 51 points below the cut line. He could make the playoffs without a win, but it's increasingly unlikely.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
