Brett Phillips Robs Homer In First KC Start
6 years agoThe Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Brett Phillips as part of the package for Mike Moustakas, and he got his first chance to show what he could do on Sunday in Yankee Stadium. A highly-touted defender, Phillips wasted no time strutting his stuff by robbing a likely home run from Austin Romine. Phillips is mostly a contact hitter with some middling power and speed, but his real plus is his defense. With the Royals in the midst of a full rebuild, Phillips will likely get plenty of opportunity to prove his worthiness, and KC's shown in the past that their attitude is that stellar defensive chops can hide a lot of offensive weakness (see Gordon, Alex and Escobar, Alcides). From a fantasy perspective, he's probably only useful in deep leagues for now, but he could have some future upside.
