Brett Baty Cleared For Baseball Activities
2 years agoNew York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) has been cleared for baseball activities and has been hitting flips. He's scheduled to progress to hitting off a machine soon, and this Thursday marks five weeks since his right thumb surgery to fix a torn UCL. The 22-year-old will not be able to make it back for the final three games of the regular season, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to rejoin the team for their postseason run. He had played in just 11 major-league games before his injury, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. Veteran Eduardo Escobar has been manning the hot corner for the Mets with Baty injured, but Baty could be a nice power option for the Mets in the playoffs if he can avoid any setbacks.
