Breshad Perriman - Can His Career Resurrection Continue?
5 years agoPerriman’s enticing mixture of size, athleticism, and speed supplied Baltimore with the motivation to select him during Round 1 of the 2015 NFL Draft. But he only averaged 42 targets, 19.6 receptions, and 305 yards through 2018, and accumulated just 31 targets, 10 receptions and 95 yards from Weeks 1-11 in 2019. However, his ability to thrive as Tampa Bay's primary receiving option last December dramatically transformed what had been a floundering career. Perriman was involved in 91% of the Buccaneers’ offensive snaps from Weeks 14-17 and took advantage of his increased usage by producing a league-best five touchdowns. He also finished fourth among all receivers in yardage and delivered three consecutive 100-yard performances - after failing to do so during the first 48 games of his career. Perriman's late-season career resurrection resulted in a one-year contract with the Jets. This will provide an opportunity for him to operate on the perimeter opposite newcomer Denzel Mims, while Jamison Crowder presents Sam Darnold with a steady option in the slot. Many owners distrust Perriman following his largely disappointing career. However, that provides an opportunity to capitalize on his sleeper potential for the minimal investment of a 12th-round pick.
