Brayden Point Centering New-Look Line
7 years agoTampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper did some line juggling before Thursday’s Game 4. This could be surprising to some, considering his team was coming off a 4-2 win in Game 3, but Cooper and the Lightning knew their play was not at its best and that they shouldn’t rely on power-play success to propel them. Brayden Point centered the second line between Tyler Johnson and Yanni Gourde, who was promoted from the third line. The new unit seemed to ignite something in Point, as he came out in Game 4 as if shot from a cannon. The Capitals scored first in the game, but Point’s line was quick to remedy that. Just 1:10 after the opening goal, Johnson, Gourde and Point made short, quick passes in the offensive zone, resulting in Point sliding the puck into a mostly empty net to tie the game. With more splendid passing, Point recorded the primary assist on Steven Stamkos’ power play that gave the Bolts the lead three minutes later. Point now has three straight games with a goal and an assist, with four points coming on the power play. Point is a strong DFS start and is proving he can play with anyone in his lineup.
