Braves Acquire Lewin Diaz From The Orioles
2 years agoThe Atlanta Braves acquired first baseman Lewin Diaz from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. Diaz was designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins in November and has been passed around by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Orioles this offseason. He'll obviously be blocked at the big-league level by elite slugger Matt Olson. The 26-year-old Dominican left-handed hitter played in 58 games for the Fish in 2022, slashing just .169/.224/.288 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in 174 plate appearances. Diaz has struggled to make consistent contact in three major-league seasons in Miami, with a career line of .181/.227/.340 with a .567 OPS, 13 home runs and 99 strikeouts in 343 plate appearances.
