2 years agoThe reign of Brandon Moreno in the flyweight division has come to an end after a split-decision loss to Alexandre Pantoja on Saturday. Moreno dominated the second round but had a hard time defending Pantoja's ground game in the other four rounds. Even so, the battle was fairly even for the most part, and the blood on both fighters' faces underscored how much each went after the other. In 25 minutes of action, Moreno landed two takedowns and 167 significant strikes. This is the second time Moreno has lost the UFC flyweight championship. His professional record now falls to 21-7-2.

5 months agoBrandon Moreno picked up a clear-cut decision win over Amir Albazi in the main event of UFC Edmonton. Moreno ended his brief hiatus from MMA and looked good early on. He outstruck Albazi 18-to-16 in the first round but took over in the second round outstriking Albazi 29-to-6. Moreno outstruck Albazi in every single round as he cruised to a clear-cut decision win. With the win, Moreno improved to 22-8-2 as a pro and is 10-5-2 in the UFC. The Mexican is likely a win away from a title shot at flyweight.

Moreno is coming off a split-decision loss to Brandon Royval in February and he planned to take time off after the loss. Now, he ends his layoff and faces the streaking Albazi. Moreno enters the bout as the favorite as DraftKings has him at a salary of $8,500. In the UFC, Moreno is 9-5-2 and is on a two-fight losing streak. If Moreno can get the win, he likely will a win away from a title shot.

Moreno was off to a good start, winning the first two rounds. Once Royval found his rhythm, he took over, showcasing incredible output, volume striking, and a relentless pace to win the remaining rounds. In 25 minutes of action, Moreno landed three takedowns and 112 significant strikes. Having lost back-to-back fights for the first time, Moreno will remain in the mix but may need one or two wins to get back to championship potential.
