Brandon Belt To Be Eased In At Spring Training
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt (knee) has played in seven spring training games in the last two years while managing a knee issue. The Blue Jays and the 34-year-old agreed to a plan to ease him into camp this year as a precautionary measure after he had knee surgery last September. Belt said he's feeling the "best I've felt in a couple years," but he's still going to take it slow. He hasn't joined the rest of the players in on-field workouts, but he's been hitting, taking groundballs and doing his own running. Belt struggled to produce last year with the San Francisco Giants while playing through his knee injury, slashing .213/.326/.350 in 78 games. Toronto plans to use him primarily as a designated hitter while putting him at first when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. needs a day off. Serving mostly as a DH should help with his health, but most fantasy managers probably aren't expecting much from Belt as he nears the end of his career.
